Moss Landing Power Plant

I love taking pictures of the stacks. So I can’t promise this will be the last. I remember being fascinated by them as a kid. I thought they were cloud makers.

Great job capturing the stacks! I would like to shoot there at night sometime and do some long exposures with the place lit up.

me like. Natural Light Seeker just gave me a great idea.

thanks I might have to make a stack set. I want to go back at twilight, especially when the air is filled with a hint of fog/mist/haze. The setting sun lights up the stacks and steam. I don't know enough about night photography to do a session there, but I bet the possibilities on a good moon kind of night are pretty good. You just can't get too close.

Yeah, stacks would make a terrrific set. Love your anecdote and post-processing!!

Sugerente, me hubiese gustado un tratamiento no tan descarado, pero la idea es muy buena.

All you need is a little tripod and some knowledge of how to create long exposures. Basically throw it in manual, adjust the aperture to something around f/5-9, and set the exposure to anywhere between 6-20 seconds (all depending on how much light you get). Chimp the results and adjust accordingly. If you have a tripod that's a little shaky, and it wobbles when you press the shutter button, then set the timer so that there's no camera shake. I love taking night shots.

i have a batch of stack shots I'm working with now...spent the day over at ML last week!!! I have a special affinity for the Power Plant my Dad worked there for 35 years. I would love to get in and photograph all that cool piping and machinery...the emmission is actually steam no particulates I can't speak to the global warming aspect it does release heat .... we should do a photo walk!!!

How cool! Your dad worked at the cloud factory! I read some figures somewhere about the release and there is some CO2 and SO2, but the amounts are relatively very low. And it just got a big modern upgrade in 2002 or someting. Depsite its rough appearances, its a very modern and relatively clean natural gas facility. There is some concern about heated water released into the slough. (Another fabulous place to shoot!) The tags are just for the searchy searches. We should totally do a photo walk. My pics are usually me stopping the car on drives between here and the peninsula.
