Wonderful photo of our California hills.

I would guess that it's evening light, but as FINNTASIA says you could have us thinking it's one thing but it's probably not that at all !!
Whatever it is---it's a great shot with a very expressive sky !

Nature always looks so animated in your pictures. I don't know if synergy or synchronicity is the word I'm hunting for (probably neither!)....The clouds jisaw into the land and you can sense the earth turning. I'm not religious but there's something Panthestic going on here! Brilliant photography.

This is a mighty fine landscape and a grad sky in beautiful light. Superbly composed, Sabine.

I like the lines of the hills and the wide angle perspective.
Maybe it could use more glow, but I like the tones in there now. The subtle warm light is really nice the way it is.

here's the original. It was evening and mostly sunny skies with just a few clouds. I just happened to frame the pic where all the clouds were. I wanted a more dramatic mood so desaturated the photo. I also made one exposure for the land and another for the sky and combined them in Photoshop. Then the usual burning and dodging and glow adding.

Lovely landscape. Your treatment adds the power of nature which is so often lost with a photograph.

So many textures to look at, keeps the mind quite occupied! A fine one, Sabine!

It's funny really. When I was doing a lot of riding in 04-06 and took pictures of long climbs or steep climbs and passed them on to non-riding folk; I usually heard "is it *really that steep?" Why yes, yes it is!
Loved the 'behind the scenes' with your explanation of the original.

I get lost in this one and I love the mood. So did you just use 2 layers? And did you just desaturate one and then just take the saturation down on the other layer? What tool do you use for glow, or did you just dodge? Okay, I'm done with 20 questions :) ~Jes (trying hard to learn!)

I love the questions
I used Lightroom to desat because it does it better and with more control than PS. I did two versions, one for land and one for sky.
Then I dragged it into PS. There are probably about four layers in this one. One for the land, one for the sky, one a mask to blend the land and sky and one for adjustment, burning, etc.
I lighten and slightly blur highlights for glow
And great job racing TWO races on Sat!

Here are what the layers look like (ignore my lazy habit of not naming layers)

Some great stuff!

I thought this was quite stormy at first but now I'm not sure it is. There's quite alot of light falling on those fields between the ominous clouds. You are so in control of this image, you could make us believe anything. Excellent artistry. -- http://philmccluskey.com/projects/flickrfox/ (?)
